LAHORE: Secretary and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab Dr Ehsan Bhutta has declared the protection of Auqaf properties, increased departmental revenue and timely achievement of government targets as key priorities, warning of action against officials who fail to meet performance goals.
Chairing a conference of Zonal Administrators at Aiwan-e-Auqaf, Lahore, he reviewed administrative, financial and development activities and directed stronger accountability and monitoring mechanisms.
The meeting was informed that inspections in Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and Mithankot zones had identified hundreds of acres of Auqaf land under illegal cultivation. Dr Bhutta directed officials to complete legal proceedings and recommend measures to improve revenue generation and protect endowed properties.
He also ordered effective action against illegal constructions, expedited land mutations in coordination with relevant authorities, including the National Accountability Bureau, and faster planning of commercial schemes and development projects on Auqaf land.
Emphasising public health, he directed religious scholars and preachers to raise awareness about dengue prevention. Officials were instructed to monitor targets daily and ensure the elimination of dengue larvae.
Dr Bhutta also stressed promoting religious tourism, improving shrine facilities and publicising galleries at model shrines, including Iqbal Hall Gallery and the Gallery of Sacred Relics. He called for the restoration of architectural heritage, efficient management of commercial and residential units, and continuous monitoring to ensure timely completion of departmental targets.
