FAISALABAD: Lyalpur Museum has opened a historical corner featuring a replica of the Tehsil Lyalpur office established in 1896, showcasing office equipment used by the area’s first Colonization Officer, Captain Popham Young.
Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh visited the newly established display alongside Sri Lankan High Commissioner Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne and his delegation. The high commissioner appreciated the initiative and praised efforts to preserve Faisalabad’s historical and cultural heritage.
Located in the museum’s first gallery, the replica offers visitors an insight into the administrative system and working environment of 1896. During the visit, Dr Sheikh presented the high commissioner with a model of Faisalabad’s historic Clock Tower as a souvenir.
Speaking to the media, the commissioner said the historical corner was an important step towards reconnecting citizens with the city’s history, culture and traditional heritage.
He said Captain Popham Young and Sir Ganga Ram had prepared the plan for the Clock Tower, eight bazaars and adjoining settlements, which subsequently shaped Faisalabad’s development.
Dr Sheikh urged residents, particularly students and young people, to visit the museum and learn about the city’s historic roots and cultural identity. He also appreciated the officers involved in restoring and arranging the historical display.
