Karachi : Standard Chartered Pakistan marked World Menopause Day with a dedicated event themed “Strength to Understand,” aiming to break stigma and bring menopause into mainstream workplace conversations.
The event brought together colleagues, business leaders, industry stakeholders and healthcare experts to discuss menopause through the lens of inclusion, wellbeing, talent retention and career progression.
The programme included a leadership conversation with Tanuj Kapilashrami, Group Chief Operating Officer, on “Building Workplaces Where Women Can Thrive Through Every Life Stage,” focusing on the role of managers in moving from awareness to practical support.
CEO & Head of Coverage Adil Salahuddin said menopause is not just a health issue but a workplace and talent issue, noting women often experience it at the peak of their careers while leading teams. “We should be creating an environment where colleagues can continue to contribute and thrive, rather than feeling that an important part of their health is something they need to manage in silence,” he said.
Head of HR Yasir Khwaja said bringing an often-unspoken subject into the open is a step toward inclusive culture.
A panel titled “The Conversation We Do Not Usually Have,” moderated by Erum Alizai, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing, featured actor and academic Tazeen Hussain, wellness consultant Dr Sheeza Mohsin, and AKUH’s Dr Nida Najmi. It addressed myths, physical and emotional wellbeing, and workplace support.
The event is part of the bank’s global research-led approach, which includes menopause counselling, learning resources, workplace adjustments and flexible working options to support colleagues through different life stages.
