News Desk

ISLAMABAD, October 11, 2026: The Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) has set up a committee to put into action the recommendations of a September 22 roundtable on intellectual property, technology transfer, and academia–industry linkages. The roundtable was jointly organized by IPO-Pakistan, YES Pakistan, and the HEC Task Force on ORICs and BICs at IPO-Pakistan’s Islamabad headquarters.

The committee will be convened by IPO-Pakistan Chairman Prof. Dr. Hafiz Aziz-ur-Rehman. Its members include an HEC nominee, the Pakistan Science Foundation chairman, representatives of FPCCI and ICCI, and senior university leaders from Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Balochistan, and Bahria University.

Mr. Muhammad Murtaza Noor, National Coordinator of the Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan (IUCPSS) and a member of the HEC Task Force on BICs, has been appointed member secretary.

Roundtable participants stressed the need to turn university research into commercially viable products and services, raise awareness of IP protection, build stronger institutional capacity, and improve coordination among universities, research offices, incubation centres, and industry.

Under the notification, the committee will follow up on these recommendations, develop IP training and capacity-building programmes, improve coordination among stakeholders, and identify ways to advance technology transfer and make better use of Pakistan’s IP system. Academic and corporate circles welcomed the initiative, which aims to create a coordinated platform for research commercialization and lasting academia–industry partnerships.
