Bureau Report
Muzaffarabad: On the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Political Affairs Chairperson Faryal Talpur, PPP Azad Jammu and Kashmir will observe November 6 as Jammu Martyrs’ Day across the State and around the world. The day honours the nearly 300,000 people killed in Jammu on November 6, 1947. Rallies, public meetings, processions and protest demonstrations will be held, and business centres will stay closed.
The main gathering will take place at the Old Secretariat in Muzaffarabad. Participants will then march to the United Nations Military Observer Group office to present a memorandum addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
PPP AJK Central Deputy Secretary Information Shaukat Javed Mir urged the international community to take notice of India’s policies and alleged human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir. He called for a clear roadmap for a just and lasting resolution of the dispute and for meaningful Pakistan-India dialogue. He said past confidence-building measures had brought no tangible relief to Kashmiris.
Joint national gatherings will pay homage to the martyrs of Jammu, Kashmir and Pakistan’s armed forces. They will be addressed by Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Opposition Leader Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen, former prime ministers Haji Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan and Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf, and other party leaders.
Mir called on party members in AJK, Pakistan and abroad to unite under the national flag in support of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
