PANAH Urges CUST Students to Support Warning Labels on Unhealthy Foods

PN Report

ISLAMABAD, :The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) organized an awareness session at the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) to educate students about the health risks of ultra-processed products (UPPs) and promote Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWL) to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The session brought together students, faculty members and youth advocates to discuss the growing prevalence of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity and other diet-related illnesses in Pakistan.

PANAH Secretary General Sana Ullah Ghumman highlighted the dangers of unhealthy dietary habits and frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods. He stressed that mandatory warning labels could help consumers identify packaged products containing excessive sugar, salt and unhealthy fats.

He urged students to become public health ambassadors and support evidence-based policies promoting healthier food choices.

PANAH Vice President Ghulam Abbas emphasized youth participation in awareness campaigns, encouraging students to educate their families, peers and communities about healthier lifestyles.

A university representative appreciated PANAH’s efforts and supported collaboration on preventive health initiatives.

The session concluded with a commitment to expand university-based awareness campaigns nationwide and encourage youth-led action against diet-related diseases.
