Bureau Report

MUZAFFARABAD: Dr. Tehniyat Iqbal Awan, President of the Women’s Wing of Tehreek-e-Jawanan-e-Kashmir, called October 24 a significant milestone in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s history, marking the 79th Foundation Day. She paid tribute to the struggle and sacrifices of the forefathers and said Azad Kashmir’s geographical, religious, cultural and social ties with Pakistan predate 1947 and will endure.

She said the day should be used to learn from the past, assess the present and set a clear direction for the future. The real benefits of freedom, she stressed, must reach the people through economic, social and political empowerment. They need basic amenities, jobs, quality education, better healthcare and equal opportunities rather than slogans and unfulfilled promises.

Dr. Tehniyat urged a politics of public service, strong institutions, transparency and accountability, with leadership judged by tangible improvements in people’s lives. She called for replacing hollow promises with measurable targets and practical measures.

On Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, she reaffirmed support for the right to self-determination and said Kashmiris’ voices would continue to be raised peacefully. She called for serious diplomatic efforts and said a just and lasting resolution of the dispute is essential for regional peace.
