Islamabad: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has strongly condemned an attack by Israeli settlers on a diplomatic delegation near Taybeh, east of Ramallah, involving the Consuls General of France and Belgium, a Polish representative, other diplomats and Catholic Church representatives. The incident also included an assault on a French mayor and damage to a Belgian vehicle.
The ministry described the incident as evidence of escalating settler violence against Palestinians and international representatives, blaming the Israeli government for providing protection and allowing impunity. It called for immediate measures to protect civilians and diplomats and hold those responsible accountable.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, the ministry urged Belgium, the European Union, its member states, the United Kingdom and other countries to impose sanctions on perpetrators and their supporters.
It said settlement expansion and forced displacement violate international law, urging an end to the occupation and settlement activities. The ministry reiterated its support for an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
