Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, said Pakistan and Russia should move beyond untapped trade opportunities and build strong, result-oriented business partnerships. He spoke during a meeting with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia at the Chamber House.

Tirmizi identified healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food security, tourism, sports goods and surgical instruments as key sectors for trade and investment. He called for easier visas, direct air connectivity and solutions to banking and payment challenges, and discussed preparations for a bilateral business forum with advance company meetings. Improved transport links through Iran, Afghanistan and China were also highlighted. He further urged cooperation in education, science and agricultural research through university partnerships, student mobility, Russian-language teaching and cultural exchanges.

ICCI President Zia called for joint ventures between Pakistani and Russian entrepreneurs, particularly in power, steel and other industries, backed by regular business-to-business meetings. He also urged consistent, long-term economic policies framed in consultation with the private sector, saying policy continuity and a predictable regulatory environment are essential to attract investment. Senior Vice President Mohammad Ashfaq Hussain Chattah stressed sustained diplomatic engagement and practical business cooperation.

Former ICCI President Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi, council members and executive committee members attended.
