Pakistan Must Shift From Workshops To Innovation-Led Green Skills With Measurable Outcomes: Musadik Malik

City Desk

ISLAMABAD :Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik said Pakistan must move beyond workshops to an innovation-driven green skills ecosystem linking research, practical skills, entrepreneurship and investment.

Addressing the concluding event of the Green Skills Development Initiative, he said progress should be measured by skills actually acquired and applied, not by number of meetings. He called for defined green skills, recognized certifications, international university partnerships and a proposed $10 million fund for young innovators.

Presenting the study, governance expert Dr Safdar Sohail said climate transition could create large jobs in energy, construction, manufacturing and agriculture, and recommended a National Green Skills Development Council and a five-year Green Jobs Framework under Uraan Pakistan.

NAVTTC Chairman Qamar ul Islam Raja said NAVTTC handles 200+ trades, 12+ green-related, and will implement recommendations. SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Suleri said no formal green skills programme exists, though skills are acquired informally in solar, e-bikes and EVs.

Officials stressed outcome-based accountability, a single donor performance framework, and aligning climate action with workforce readiness for youth and women.
