Meat Association Urges Modern Slaughterhouse in Islamabad, ICCI Pledges Support

Commerce Desk

Islamabad: Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi, President of the All Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Quresh Meat Welfare Association and a member of the Livestock and Dairy Development Board, met ICCI President Muhammad Zakaria Akbar Zia to raise the lack of a modern, standardized slaughterhouse in the capital.

Qureshi said the absence of such a facility makes it hard to ensure hygienic, food-safe meat. Transporting livestock and meat to slaughterhouses far outside the city also raises costs, which are passed on to consumers. He argued that a modern facility would supply clean meat to residents and boost Pakistan’s meat exports, and appealed to Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi to issue directives for its establishment.

Zia called the slaughterhouse a longstanding demand of citizens and businesses that has remained pending for years. He assured the delegation that ICCI would raise the issue at relevant forums and help get a modern facility built at the earliest.

UBG Secretary General Zafar Bakhtawari and several association officials attended. Participants stressed coordination among government departments and practical steps toward the project.
