Islamabad: The Government of Japan announced on 3 November 2026 that former Pakistan Ambassador to Japan Farukh Akhter Amil will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, in its 2026 Fall Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. The award recognizes his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between the two countries.
Amil served as ambassador from 2013 to 2017. He advanced cultural and people-to-people ties, including inviting Princess Takamado to a calligraphy exhibition at the Pakistan Embassy in August 2015. He also lectured at more than 50 Japanese universities, engaging directly with students and researchers.
Soon after arriving, and before presenting his credentials, he visited Fukushima, which was devastated by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Residents called the gesture “unforgettable support.”
After his term, he continued promoting understanding of Japan. In February 2025, he co-hosted the photo exhibition “Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador” with the Japanese Embassy in Pakistan, which was covered by 14 major Pakistani newspapers.
