Islamabad: Faisal Anwar, Central Deputy Secretary Information of Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum), said hockey is Pakistan’s national game but is being neglected today. He recalled that Pakistan once ruled the world of hockey, with players bringing glory to the country at the Olympics and World Cups.
Anwar said no new grounds are being built and no standard clubs are being set up to train young players, so talent is being wasted through the negligence of the government and concerned institutions. He urged that hockey be promoted on a priority basis, with tournaments at school and college level and financial security for players.
“Politics should not be everywhere,” he said, adding that some work should be done in the name of the homeland and the nation. He described the revival of the national game as the revival of national prestige.
He said party founder Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan always spoke of Pakistan, and that current party President Syed Saqlain Bukhari is following the path of the late former President Syed Faqir Hussain Bukhari. He appealed to the nation to support the party’s caravan, which he described as free from self-interest, anarchic politics, backbiting and corruption.
