Islamabad: Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani said there can be no curtailment of the powers devolved to the assembly under the 13th Constitutional Amendment. Addressing office-bearers of the AJK Bar Council and Bar Associations, he dismissed as baseless the propaganda about a change in the state’s status. He regretted that this false campaign was spreading chaos, noting that two districts still have no representation in the Legislative Assembly.
Gillani described constitutional amendments as an evolutionary process, pointing to the 14th and 15th Amendments that followed the 13th. He said any amendment in the public interest could be presented and debated in the House, and called dialogue a civilized way of hearing each other’s views. He urged citizens to focus on the common man’s problems and offer concrete suggestions rather than waste time on trivial issues.
He said restoring public trust in state institutions is the government’s priority, and that 90 percent of problems could be solved through timely justice, stressing the need for a functional Law Commission. He announced land for the AJK Bar Council’s housing and said the Lawyers Protection Act will be presented at the next cabinet meeting.
