Sindh High Court Chief Justice Stresses Junior Lawyers’ Training, Urges End to Lawyer Violence

Abdul Ghafoor Sarohi

HYDERABAD: Sindh High Court Chief Justice Zafar Rajput has stressed the need for professional training of junior lawyers and effective steps to curb lawyer violence. Addressing the Hyderabad District Bar, of which he once served as president, he called it his own home and said he wanted to begin reform from within.

He hoped the newly elected body would use all available resources for lawyers’ welfare, especially by launching training programmes for juniors. Warning against violence, he said lawyers must understand the dignity of the black coat, and asked the audience to take his remarks as advice from a senior rather than harsh criticism.

The chief justice said that on taking oath he found basic facilities lacking in courts, with some having no drinking water and bar associations lacking libraries. He said courts across Sindh, from Karachi to Ghotki, have been shifted to solar power within six months. Free water filtration plants and washrooms have been installed, three libraries were given to the Hyderabad District Bar, and six more solar systems will be supplied to district courts.

Stressing study and professional development, he said no lawyer can become a good legal professional without studying. He encouraged young lawyers to apply for judicial posts as vacancies arise and advance on merit.

He assured the legal community that steps would continue to address their concerns, including libraries and other essential facilities.
