Japan-Funded Link Road Inaugurated in Murree’s Numbal Village

City Desk

ISLAMABAD: Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi attended inauguration of the Project for Improvement of Link Road in Village Numbal, Tehsil Murree, implemented by Al Mezan Islamic Model School.

Japan provided USD 64,528 through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). Ceremony was attended by District Education Officer Murree Sidra Batool, Embassy officials, school representatives, teachers, students and community.

The project built a durable concrete link road with protective culverts over water channels, replacing dirt paths vulnerable to flooding. Local community contributed land worth PKR 4.5 million, supervision and stone materials, showing strong ownership.

The road addresses urgent access needs in Numbal, where poor infrastructure made travel difficult and risky during emergencies. It enables over 500 students to safely reach school without crossing flood-prone streams and benefits 2,540 residents with improved access to healthcare and markets.

Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated the school for completion despite terrain and weather, stressing safe infrastructure and school access as key to sustainable development and children’s futures, and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to Pakistan’s development and friendship.
