Karachi: Syed Aman Shah, President Awaam Pakistan Balochistan has expressed serious concern over the extraordinary increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, stating that the sharp rise has further aggravated the difficulties faced by the public. He said that the alleged LPG mafia has taken crores of rupees out of people’s pockets in just five days, while the relevant authorities have failed to take effective measures to control prices and prevent profiteering.
He stated that LPG consumption is increasing due to changing weather conditions and the growing intensity of cold weather. Taking advantage of this situation, LPG is reportedly being sold at prices ranging from Rs. 600 to Rs. 650 per kilogram at various locations. The public is already struggling with inflation, unemployment, and the rising cost of essential commodities. Under these circumstances, the increase in LPG prices has made it even more difficult for low-income and middle-class families to meet their household expenses.
Syed Aman Shah said that citizens are being forced to pay approximately Rs. 320 extra per kilogram for LPG, placing an additional financial burden on already struggling households. He described the situation as particularly alarming for citizens who rely on LPG for cooking, especially families forced to purchase alternative fuels due to the unavailability of natural gas.
He urged the Federal Government and Government of Balochistan, the district administration, and the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the increase in LPG prices, ensure strict implementation of officially notified rates, and take decisive action against those involved in illegal profiteering. He emphasized that the supply of LPG to consumers at officially prescribed prices must be ensured without delay.
Syed Aman Shah said that the public cannot be left at the mercy of inflation and profiteering. He stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide relief to citizens and take practical steps to control the prices of essential commodities.
He further stated that public problems cannot be resolved through announcements alone. Effective monitoring, strict enforcement of the law, and decisive action against those exploiting consumers are essential to providing genuine relief to the people.
